John 6:8-10
New English Translation
8 One of Jesus’ disciples,[a] Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother, said to him, 9 “Here is a boy who has five barley loaves and two fish, but what good[b] are these for so many people?”
10 Jesus said, “Have[c] the people sit down.” (Now there was a lot of grass in that place.)[d] So the men[e] sat down, about 5,000 in number.

- John 6:8 tn Grk “one of his disciples.”
- John 6:9 tn Grk “but what are these”; the word “good” is not in the Greek text, but is implied.
- John 6:10 tn Grk “Make.”
- John 6:10 sn This is a parenthetical note by the author (suggesting an eyewitness recollection).
- John 6:10 tn Here “men” has been used in the translation because the following number, 5,000, probably included only adult males (see the parallel in Matt 14:21).
